We believe Christmas begins in West Jefferson. Along with our nationally acclaimed Choose and Cut Christmas Tree industry, West Jefferson kicks off its Holiday events early with the annual holiday parade on the third Saturday of November and the Town continues to celebrate right up to Christmas Eve.
Following the annual holiday parade on the third Saturday in November, downtown West Jefferson “lights up the town” with numerous holiday-themed lighted displays placed throughout the downtown area as well as in the Backstreet Park. The local merchants and residents get in the Holiday spirit by decking out their storefronts for the holidays, making downtown a wonderful of Christmas spirit.
Held on the Friday after Thanksgiving, the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree takes place at the Backstreet Park. Enjoy caroling, hot chocolate, the official lighting of the tree and most importantly, a visit from Santa Claus himself. Santa & his North Pole friends arrive on an old-fashion fire engine providing Christmas treats for the children & an opportunity to tell him what they want for Christmas. Following this event, stroll the streets of West Jefferson all decked out for the holidays.
Take time to visit Ashe County Arts Center to see our Festival of Trees. Ready-made Christmas jams, jellies, handmade, homegrown gifts and seasonal decor are available at our local holiday themed Farmers Market, located on the backstreet in West Jefferson. The market will have special holiday hours at the end of November and first part of December for Christmas shopping.
Our shops and galleries will have unique offerings for Christmas gifts during the Holiday Season and those one-of-a-kinds finds for that special person on your list.
Do not forget to choose your Christmas tree during an old-fashion family outing at one of the many Choose and Cut Tree Farms right here in West Jefferson.
